Great birds! Beautiful park.
Park at the cobblestone lot in front of the convent for free and hike uphill heading south behind the parking lot. Arriving early, at least before 9am, is great to avoid the noisy church crowds and the unofficial parking attendants hoping for tips. The food is ok, but be ready to be unceasingly yelled at by 6 restuarant solicitors at once until you pick one. I'm personally extremely annoyed by restuarants like that so I'd bring my own lunch.
Police patrol the trails on horseback, which is a nice service. Maybe this is a response to issues earlier this year. The parking lot can be very noisy with staff playing music or sometimes religious ceremonies over loudspeakers, but the trail becomes peaceful about 1 km up the trail.
Red Warblers, Hooded Grosbeaks, Green striped brushfinch - this place is fantastic, and the birds are abundant practically in the parking lot so no need to put on heavy miles by starting from La Venta...

The ex-convent is a nicely maintained historic building. The grounds are gardens are pretty as well. The only suggestion I have is to have an info booth manned with a couple of docents, or even better, have them...
Read moreBeautiful historic building in the middle of a lush forest. Beautiful gardens and peaceful environment. Interesting History of this 17th century monastery. But, it lacks better maintenance and care. It would be nice to have more historic info displayed inside the monastery and it would make the visit even more interesting if it had more “museum like” displays as well. The Chapel was locked. Overall, we all enjoyed the visit and were able to take...
