A must do in Tepoztlan. We started out on 1/4/2024 at 11am. There were other hikers but not at all crowded which it became when we descended. We brought 3 water bottles between 2 of us and we could’ve used another. There are people with water from which to buy, so that’s super helpful. We trekked 66 flights of stairs according to our phones. Most of the hike was like climbing stairs and there are rest areas along the way. In total we think it took us 1:30 to reach the summit and pyramid. An hour and half with stopping to rest for 5 min 4 times or so. Then the descent — we took our time since we saw a gentleman fall 6-7 feet down from the path on our way up- which scared us all but he seemed fine. We saw hikers from 3 yo to 75+ yo. It’s a spiritual path and the pyramid has ties to agricultural promise. We’re glad we did it while we still can at 60+ yo. What an accomplishment. Check the days and hours of access. And the man at the top takes 95 pesos (cash) each to see the pyramid. 60 yo and up get in free and we didn’t need to...

A beautiful hike with beautiful views. It takes a lot of mental, physical, and emotional stamina to make it to the top where the pyramid is located. Taking your time allows you the luxury of enjoying the striking views and biodiversity as you ascend into the mountains. Do pace yourself and plan accordingly with water and snacks/ lunch and proper attire. Recommend starting early to be able to take your time getting to the top. I do not recommend doing this while recovering from food poisoning or if you have plans the next day to do a lot of walking around etc, your calves will be sore. Some areas feel nearly vertical and steps are small going up, rocks can be slippery. You will be humbled taking this trail as locals and abuelitas with their canes pass you as they ascend. The pyramid area itself is small and you are able to climb parts of it. The view of the city is extraordinary, as you can really appreciate how high in the...

Update - we returned on a Sunday. The whole town is chaotic and very crowded. We hiked up to see the pyramid. The hike up was arduous and very, very crowded. If you like to hike, the hike up and back is almost 4 km with a 450m (+/-) elevation change. If you're enduring the hike to see the pyramid, go elsewhere - there are better ruins to visit, and most aren't nearly as busy as this place. I would not recommend this site unless your primary reason to visit is the challenging hike.

Really disappointed the site is closed 2 days a week. We were there on a Monday, and there were four employees at the site to tell us it was closed. I must have passed a hundred people wanting to go to the site. Hmm. If it were open, maybe those hundred people paying admission would cover the cost of having four...

Muy bonito, mucha gente pero que bueno que se animen a hacer el recorrido. Lleven zapatos para montaña, es muy resbaloso.
