Playa Arrocito — Attraction in Oaxaca

While the location is nice, and the snorkling is good the beach service is absolutely terrible, in fact it's kind of threatening on occasion. We were there on 3 separate occasions recently, and the last one was the straw that broke the camels back for us.

One occasion, there was an altercation with a drunken local (who hated "Gringos" and a stolen cell phone. On the next visit, the one and only waitress was incredibly rude to anyone who was not Mexican. The third time, even worse service, with an attempted shakedown for "rent" of the tables (after having purchased $300.00 pesos in drinks and asking to order food). There was also an attempted theft of a vacationers back pack right from their chair.

We've been to Hutalco many times, and generally the people and services are great. But this spot is always a glaring exception. I'd instead highly recommend a day at Playa Maguay or La Entrega (both very close by taxi). They are bigger, and better...

We are exploring the beaches in Huatulco, one by one. This small beach was the most disappointing. One must pass through an area of private MacMansions and multistory condominiums, then walk down a narrow concrete passageway to get to the beach. The entire beach is ringed by tall condos and apartment buildings. The water is a bit rough and the sand coarse. I found it depressing to be surrounded by so much development. I also read some local accounts from a few years ago of sewage dumping by the adjacent condos/resorts. There are much better beaches where one can enjoy the natural beauty...

Rude, racist and extremely obnoxious waiter Charged us for the table even though we only stayed for a couple of drinks. Seems I was too blonde and my friend was too brown he assumed we were tourist and wouldn't be back. We are both residents of course. Staying on the beach for a few days. 100 Pesos today cost the business at least 5 thousand as we were with other friends whom, on our advice went elsewhere. My Spanish speaking friend was in tears.
