Cuexcomate — Attraction in Puebla

The smallest volcano in the world, which is currently inactive and has a flea market and a park surrounding it (it's safe enough for all this yes) inside of La Libertad neighborhood. There's even free WiFi for the park. You'll be able to take bus route 76 on either side of the park that'll take you downtown and up to Prolongación Reforma, to get on your way to Cholula. Cuexcomate is an incredible place where you can actually enter a small volcano, often referred to as a "baby volcano," or a vent for the active volcano Popocatépetl. Entering was a bit intimidating, but it was much cooler inside. Muy lindo lugar con historia fascinante:

El volcán más pequeño del mundo es una curiosidad que nos regala el estado de Puebla en la colonia Libertad de su ciudad capital. El nombre «Cuexcomate» proviene del término náhuatl «cuexcomatl» y significa «olla de barro» o «lugar para guardar».

El Cuexcomate se formó por brote de agua sulfhídrica como consecuencia de la erupción del volcán Popocatepetl en el año 1064. El acceso al interior del volcán está permitido.

La layenda cuenta que el volcán Popocatepetl tenía amoríos con su compañera, el volcán Iztaccíhuatl y de estos encuentros nació el volcancito Cuexcomate. En la época colonial recibía a los pecadores, le lanzaban a los suicidas que no tenían cabida en los panteones. Durante muchos años fue un basurero donde la gente iba a tirar sus desechos y estuvo a punto de llenarse de residuos.
