The Santuario de la Virgen de los Remedios in Cholula is a stunning blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty. Perched atop the Great Pyramid—the largest by volume in the world—this church offers not just a religious experience, but an unforgettable view of the Puebla Valley and the surrounding volcanoes, including the iconic Popocatépetl.
The walk up is short but steep, and absolutely worth the effort. Once you reach the top, the views are breathtaking. Whether under a bright sun or during sunset, the landscape is cinematic and peaceful.
The church itself is beautifully preserved, with its bright yellow Baroque façade and elegant domes. Inside, you’ll find a quiet and sacred space, adorned with religious art and gold details that reflect centuries of devotion. It's both humble and majestic—a place where time feels slower.
What makes this sanctuary even more meaningful is its cultural depth. Built in the 16th century over a sacred indigenous site, it represents the complex layering of faiths and traditions in Mexico. You stand on centuries of history—both pre-Hispanic and colonial—with every step.
Visitors often speak of the calm and serenity they feel here, and it’s easy to understand why. Whether you come for spiritual reasons or simply to admire the view, this site is a must if you're in Cholula.
Don’t miss it. Few places offer such a rich combination of natural beauty, cultural significance, and peaceful atmosphere in...

This was one of the highlights of my trip so...
Read moreIt's worth the climb if only for the view at the top - one can see Puebla city and the volcanos surrounding it. The church is very ornate and seems very much a spot for veneration even to this day. The back chapel behind the altar has a nice display of various outfits for the Virgin of Remedio and the history of the statue. And a very ornate small chapel as well. But the best thing is the 360 view without doubt. For those who is not yet acclimated to the altitude of this city, take time to climb up, there are many resting places with views. And take...
