The colonial mining city of Zacatecas was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1993, primarily because of its attractive historic center. The mine named after the Garden of Eden opened in 1975 as a tourist attraction, like so many places where Adam and Steve lost their health digging for silver, lead, gold, copper, zinc and cadmium as to create wealth for their masters. The local guides will tell you their favorite pulmonary disease jokes like this one: "A miner goes to the doctor who tells him "I'm sorry, hijo, but you have silicosis. You'll be dead in a year." On his way home, the grief-stricken miner stops in his favorite cantina and has a couple chelas with his friends, telling them the bad news: "Compadres," he says, "I'll be dead in a year' coz I got AIDS." Our guide stopped and giggled until someone asked the obvious questions? "Why would the miner say that?" Our guide: "'Cause when he dies, he does not want his friends trying to make out with his wife!"...

You never know what's hiding in a cave or mine but how everything is laid out in the stories that the mine tellers give you are amazing.
You get to ride a train through a very dark tunnel to the main mine with all kinds of artifacts and fun awaiting everyone.
I feel like we didn't even get the whole picture but the levels and the amount of History embedded underneath is awesome. When you think it's about to end it's just getting started. There's even a club inside the mind which blew my mind away! Discoteca!

Read moreVery interesting visit to a minefield. At first you need to way for the train, if it is not there. It may take from 10 to 20 minutes, which you don't really care because you can take pictures with some antiques, buying souvenirs or get snacks. It is about 5 to 10 minutes raid to the mine by train and the guide gives you around 20 minutes to watch the minerals, fossil and miners tools museum. After, it is about 30 to 45 minutes walk where the guide tells you all about the mining process and history of the mine.
