La Casona de los Vitrales is in a beautifully restored building in a very convenient, perhaps the best, location in Zacatecas. Unfortunately, the restoration using beautiful Mexican tiles on walls and floors and the design of a two-floor atrium lobby did not take into account noise. In my second-floor room, I could hear the television from the lobby and the conversations of people at the check-in desk. No consideration was given to the time of day or night when these were going on. At night I heard conversations until after 2 a.m. In the mornings, beginning at 8:30 a.m., children were running around the lobby. The staff made no attempt to control this. ||||In addition to the problem of noise, there was no hot water. I told one person at the front desk and he said it would be fixed. When the problem continued, I said something again. This time I was told to run the water a long time. Zacatecas and other Mexican desert towns have a water shortage. I felt terrible to have to run the water extra long in order to take a hot shower. ||||Despite appearances, this was one of the most irritating hotels I have ever stayed at. Though I had booked six nights, I left...
Read moreOriginally we had booked another hotel by the owners throug Booking.com. When we got there the hotel was closed and they took us to this hotel. We had a choice of rooms and choosed a kind of suite on the top floor with a large terrace. When watching the other rooms we found that a lot of them had very little light. When we got there we found that one of the cleaners had left a hairbrush in the bathroom. We had a fridge and coffeemaker. The continental breakfast was very minimal. The only bread there was to make toast from. There was not tea, just coffee. As the owners were afraid we would write a bad critics after what had happened with the other hotel(we did make a complaint at Booking.com) they tried to make our stay as pleasant as they could. They even lend us a laptop to take to the room. When we left they gave us a voucher for one free night in either of the two hotels to spend within the next 12 months. For me this seemed like a ridiculous compensation because it is not very likely that someone from Holland will visit Zacatecas twice...
Read moreWe have just returned from a 10 day motorcycle trip through parts of mexico. I NEED to write about the casona. The location is great, the rooms very nice and clean. and that is it. I NEVER received a fax or e mail to confirm my reservation although i called various times. We did not get our wake up call our last morning there! The place is very noisy and the curtains are too thin to keep the light out, and the window over the door lets light in too. The WORST thing, well i had read here about the water and did not think much of it.... i would really consider this problem if you wish to stay here! The last morning we woke up to almost no water pressure, and NO hot water. We were six couples staying there together, and this is our review. Unless there is new management, and problems fixed, we all agree that this place is not...
