A handsome looking catholic church but one that does not stand out in any way from the myriad of other churches reviewed on this site. Single nave, barrel vault structure is whitewashed both inside and out with the exception of the façade which is stone and fairly straightforward. The interior is very simple and fairly small. the church is a must-see in Campeche, but in any European city, this church would be a tertiary option for a traveler.

Un grande edificio para el tamaño de Campeche, me inspira hacia los frutos de una vida vivida por lo superior, antes que nada rectitud y certidumbre... Se le nota la honradez espiritual con la que vive el Campechano su dia en dia y las labores que hace segun su fe y consciencia como se supone que deberia ser en una ciudad viva y sin importar las fronteras de la religion solo basandome en lo que es sentible dentro de estas gruesas paredes. Siento la lucha por la paz en todo el pais e incluso el mundo y la frustracion por la impotencia del pueblo hoy en dia tal como la intención de hacerlo diferente por bien de los conocidos y los familiares y la innecesaria lucha de generaciones... Me gusta mucho porque aqui puedo descubrir verdad acerca de Campeche que por solo abrir los sentidos llega a mis sentimientos y atraves de ellos a mis pensamientos. Talvez no sera el mejor lugar para reflexionar acerca de Dios pero para obtener certidumbre acerca de la identidad de Campeche si y aunque por el gran tamaño arquitectonico al cual ya se ha escrito hasta un segundo himno campechano ("Las torres de catedral") se nota en sus piedras la intención de obrar el bien y la felicidad obtenida por la misma....recomiendo visitarla de noche...

We went into the cathedral of Campeche on a Wednesday. The church was empty and only three people were in the cemetery right next to the church (you can go there via the church door in the left). It is a imposant building from the outside and looks very nice also at night. The inside is ok but not that great - just have a Quick Look inside.

La diocesi comprende per intero lo stato messicano di Campeche con i suoi 11 comuni.Sede vescovile è la città di San Francisco de Campeche, dove si trova la cattedrale dell'Immacolata Concezione di Maria Vergine. Il territorio si estende su 56.858 km² ed è suddiviso in 4 decanati e 60 parrocchie. La diocesi è stata eretta il 24 marzo 1895 da papa Leone XIII con la bolla Praedecessorum nostrorum, ricavandone il territorio dalla diocesi di Yucatán (oggi arcidiocesi). Il 23 maggio 1970 ha ceduto una porzione di territorio a vantaggio dell'erezione della prelatura territoriale di Chetumal (oggi prelatura territoriale di Cancún-Chetumal). Nice cathedral, free entry and a little museum inside with religious stuff for 10 pesos. Didn’t enter the museum but it looked nice from the outside. Being from Europe, Mexican churches always seem a bit poor in comparison to me, but this one is one of the nicest I’ve seen so far. Beautiful also during the night, though closed, of course.
