The Đurđevića Tara Bridge, which was designed by engineer Mijat Trojanović, was built between 1937 and 1940 in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and the works were carried out by the company Andonović from Belgrade. The project's Chief Engineer was Isaac Russo. The 365-metre-long (1,198 ft) bridge has five arches; the largest span is 116 metres (381 ft). The roadway stands 172 metres (564 ft) above the Tara River. At the time of its completion, it was the biggest vehicular concrete arch bridge in Europe. The bridge was rebuilt in 1946. It was used in the 1978 British action film "Force 10 from Navarine" set during World War II. In more recent years bungee jumping has taken place from the longest arch directly above the river. The bridge also plays a large part in the Dutch novel Het land achter Gods rug by A. den Doolaard, which was published in 1956. This novel is partly based on the true story of the bridge including its destruction by partisans during World War II.

This is the definition of a fairy tale and a dream while being awaken!! Hit there by car in the sunrise and you will understand my words!! The elegant spans of the 150m-high Tara Bridge were completed just as WWII was starting. At the time it was the largest concrete arched vehicular bridge in Europe. Its 365m length is carried on five sweeping arches, the largest of which is 116m wide. In May 1942, with large numbers of Italian and German troops stationed in Žabljak, the Partisan command gave the order to blow up the bridge. The honour went to one of its engineers, Lazar Jauković, who planted the bomb that destroyed his beautiful creation. Jauković was captured by the Italians and executed on the remains of his bridge. When it was rebuilt in 1946, Jauković’s bravery was acknowledged by a plaque that still stands by the bridge today.

Nature and architecture The bridge over the Tara River near the Durmitor National Park is a good example of how nature and architecture can harmonize nicely. It is quite a long concrete bridge, but its openwork construction gives it lightness. The Tara River itself is fabulously beautiful and it is worth going rafting on a pontoon. Around the bridge there are many souvenir points and people encouraging to use the popular attraction - a ride on the line to the other side of the canyon. A place worth recommending, especially in sunny weather.

The Tara Bridge, located approximately 150 km from Podgorica, is a stunning destination well worth the trip. The drive offers mystic views of Montenegro’s breathtaking landscapes, setting the stage for the beauty of the bridge itself. Once there, you can enjoy various types of ziplines and kayaking on the Tara River, making it a perfect spot for adventure seekers. The bridge's architecture and the surrounding scenery make it a must-visit venue. Highly recommended for its beauty and outdoor activities!

The beauty of this bridge is actually revealed from afar. You can't see it when you're on the bridge, and you can't understand its specialness either. At the same time, you can enjoy beautiful views of the valley from the bridge. There are places where you can park your car at both ends of the bridge. There are many different zip line providers on both sides of the bridge. The drive to the bridge is also beautiful and the natural diversity there is different from the rest of Montenegro.
