Very nice place, a bit pricey for a family of 5 at 60 dirhams per person, considering the size of the place. Regardless, it was the smallest university in Morocco and presents elements of Arabic, Andalusian and Berber architecture with Jewish elements as there were jewish builders helping long time ago. It ran until the 1940s and was shut down with most other institutions as a result of the revolution against the French. There are several floors of rooms that were chambers for the students. The lower room with the fountain was the teaching room where everyone would be sat on the floor to receive their lessons in psychology, astronomy, mathematics and many more subjects. The prayer room can be found in the back. It is hard to imagine this building is over 700 years old. The one star off is because one the guides went rogue on us and decided to show us Salé for a little something. This wasn't appropriate behaviour considering we paid enough for the entrance but then again, we did learn a thing or two for next time. Whenever someone suggests to go out of the museum, kindly decline...

The Merinid Madrasa of Salé, also known as Madrasa Talâa (former Palace of Banou Achara) is one of the most famous schools built by Sultan Abou Al Hasan Al Marini in 1341. With an area of 180 m2, considered to be a architectural masterpiece because of its exquisite architecture and the beauty of its decorations, it played a cultural, educational and political role at the time and served to restore religious education and science. The teaching covered all Islamic disciplines (Qur'an, hadith, law, doctrine, etc.) as well as sciences such as grammar, logic, rhetoric, astronomy, calculation. The medersa offered students from elsewhere, a kind of scholarship for living and clothing, in addition to...

Be careful with "volunteer" guide waiting naive tourists near Medersa. We were catched by him on the entrance to the building. He briefly guided us around Mosque and nearby Medina for 15-20 minutes. We offered him 50 dirhams for his help and his friendliness was instantly disappeared. He insisted that we owed him 200 dirhams!!! Full SHAME, especially for person, who showed himself as devout.

Yes, we are to blame too for believing in his voluntarism and did not ask about price from start. Do not repeat...
