The monastery itself is nice but nothing too extravagant. There is some pretty detailed lattice work, some nice statutes, and a good series of artwork showing the works of the Buddha. There are some cats as well, though not the jumping variety as I had heard mentioned in the past. But the real reason why you absolutely must come here if you’re in Inle is the boat ride to and from the monastery. Snaking your way trough little canals, passing charming stilt houses with real people going about their daily lives, taking in some amazing scenery; this is one situation where the journey itself is better than the destination.
