ENG 🏛 The Pantheon of Heroes is one of the emblematic historical buildings to visit in Asunción of Paraguay. Built under the Presidency of Francisco Solano López on October 13, 1863, it was dedicated to the Virgin Our Lady of the Assumption, patron saint of this city. Due to the War of the Triple Alliance, the building was left unfinished for 70 years. On October 12, 1936 it was inaugurated, also becoming the National Panteon of Heroes, since the ashes of Marshal Solano López, among other heroes, have been found there since then. __________________________________________________ ESP 🏛 El Panteón de los Héroes es uno de los edificios históricos emblemáticos a visitar en Asunción del Paraguay. Construido bajo la presidencia de Francisco Solano López el 13 de octubre de 1863, estuvo dedicado a la Virgen Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, patrona de esta ciudad. Debido a la Guerra de la Triple Alianza, el edificio quedó sin terminar durante 70 años. The National Pantheon of Heroes, a historic edifice nestled in the heart of downtown Asuncion, is a must-visit destination. It beckons you to explore the rich tapestry of Paraguayan history, with a plethora of notable figures interred within its cemetery-chapel, including luminaries such as Mariscal Lopez and Mariscal Estigarribia. The best part? Admission is entirely free. As you approach this venerable institution, you'll invariably encounter two sentinels, steadfastly guarding its entrance. During my visit, I was fortunate to witness a changing of the guard, a ceremonious display of military precision and respect. It was a captivating experience that added depth to my visit. For many years, the monument lay shrouded in mystery, often closed to the public due to either ongoing renovations or the shadow cast by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, during my decade-long sojourn in Paraguay, the opportunity to step inside had eluded me. Now, I can genuinely say I've savored the delight of this long-awaited visit.

An elegant building of a project of a Polish architect - Brunon Paprocki who lived in Asunción till his death. Its dome seems to be inspired by a similar European Sacre Coeur in Paris or St.Paul in London. It is just smaller. The place is worth a short visit. It is quite small.

It is such a beautiful building a good way to get to know a little bit about some of the important individuals in Paraguayan history. Worth stopping to see it as it only takes a few minutes to pass through it and absorb its importance.

El Panteón Nacional de los Héroes en Asunción es un monumento emblemático que alberga los restos de destacados héroes de la historia paraguaya, incluyendo a figuras como Don Carlos Antonio López y el Mariscal Francisco Solano López. Diseñado por el arquitecto italiano Alejandro Ravizza, este mausoleo es una joya arquitectónica con un profundo valor cultural y patrimonial. Reconstruido por el ingeniero polaco Brunon Edward Paprocki, el Panteón es una réplica del Le Panthéon parisino. Su ubicación central lo convierte en un punto de partida para explorar Asunción, y su significado simbólico lo hace relevante en diversas ocasiones para los paraguayos

Visité el Panteón el día feriado de la Batalla de Boquerón. No habia muchas personas, pude tomar fotos tranquilamente. Había guardias con trajes muy "protocolares" y hay una pequeña ceremonia cambio de guardia. La visita se puede hacer rapidamente, es un lugar interesante, y mas si quieren aprender de la historia del país. El Panteón Nacional de los Héroes y Oratorio de la Virgen de la Asunción es uno de los íconos arquitectónicos de la capital. Interesando a saber que es una réplica del edificio parisino Le Pantheon.
