Australian Camp, also known as Australian Base Camp, is a scenic hilltop viewpoint located at an altitude of approximately 2,060 meters in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Just about a 1–1.5-hour uphill hike from Kande (reachable by a 45-minute drive from Pokhara), it offers one of the most accessible and rewarding panoramic views of the Himalayas. This picturesque location is best known for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset vistas over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. On clear days, visitors can enjoy stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Lamjung Himal. The viewpoint is surrounded by lush forests, peaceful landscapes, and terraced fields that add to the tranquil atmosphere. Australian Camp is a popular overnight destination for short treks, especially for those looking to experience the mountains without long or difficult hikes. Several cozy lodges and teahouses offer comfortable accommodations with basic amenities and delicious local meals, making it a great spot for families, beginners, or even romantic getaways. Aside from the view, the area provides a perfect place to relax, meditate, or enjoy stargazing at night. The trail to Australian Camp is well-maintained and relatively easy, making it suitable for all age groups. It also serves as a gateway to longer treks like Dhampus, Landruk, Ghandruk, and the Mardi Himal trail. Whether you're a trekker, photographer, or nature lover, Australian Camp offers a magical experience—combining short hiking, cultural charm, and unbeatable mountain scenery in one place. It’s a peaceful escape from the bustle of Pokhara and a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Nepal’s natural beauty.

I highly recommend Australian Base Camp for those seeking a blend of natural beauty, accessibility, and cultural immersion. The trek to this camp is moderate, making it perfect for beginners, families, or anyone looking for a rewarding short hike. The views from the camp are nothing short of spectacular, with Machapuchare (Fishtail) and Annapurna South dominating the skyline—a true paradise for photographers and sunrise enthusiasts. The trail also offers an excellent opportunity to explore the rich biodiversity of the region, with diverse flora and fauna along the way. Additionally, the camp’s proximity to traditional Gurung villages allows trekkers to experience the local culture and hospitality firsthand, adding a meaningful cultural dimension to the journey. Australian Base Camp is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the Himalayas in a short, accessible trek.
