Unfortunately, I can't write a good review... I hope what I say here can help other travelers and they don't experience the same things that happened to me, although Resham himself told me that he deletes negative reviews.
Resham is a lovely-looking person. That's how he sells hisself. But he has a dark side behind him...
I trusted this guide from the very beginning, believing his recommendations and advice. Many of them were for his own benefit (charging more days, doing favors for friends and taking commissions, etc.).
I insisted that I wanted to do the Annapurna Circle in 12 days. He told me it was impossible and that if I did, I would be at high risk of altitude sickness. LIE!! The first day we sleep at 1000 m, the second day at 1300... You can skip those days and go up by car, which is what I later discovered everyone did. Also, the last day of the descent was also on a road where there was no one else because it wasn't interesting, and people take the bus back to Pokhara earlier. BAD ADVICE, POOR RECOMMENDATIONS... AND HE GIVE YOU THE FEAR AS EXCUSE THAT IF YOU DON'T DO LIKE THIS YOU'LL GET ALTITUDE SICKNESS!! Nobody else was doing like this.
He started asking me for 1,000 euros for the trek! CRAZY! In the end, after a long discussion he lowered it to 500 euros (taking public transport instead of a jeep, and without food included). He sold it to me as if he was doing me a favor, but then I also discovered that 500 euros is a pretty expensive price. NORMAL PRICE IS 420 - 450 euros GOING BY JEEP!
He told me the price included room but not food. I brought food with me for breakfast and dinner, but this caused a lot of arguments and strange situations that at the beginning I couldn't understand. After a few days, I discovered that if I ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, he didn't have to pay for the room. Of course, he didn't tell me any of this. I figured it out myself. Little by little, I saw how he was stabbing me in the back, despite playing the role of a good person. He pressured me every day about food, creating very uncomfortable situations.
In other ways, he was also overwhelming. Every time I tried to interact with a locals, he would jump in to translate, and the situation ended with the two of them speaking in Nepali and me excluded. He even harassed other travelers traveling alone, asking for their phone numbers and insisting they come to our hotel (I suppose he got a commission). Several travelers told him point-blank, "Please leave us alone. We'll do our own thing."
I could write a thousand more bad anecdotes.
I can't say it's Easy Going at all. This guide, unfortunately, overshadowed the experience. I've been traveling in Asia for 12 months, and this is the first time I haven't given a...
Read moreWe did the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Resham and we cannot praise him enough! He's very experienced, knows the region by heart including some "off the beaten track" paths. Also he's very keen on birds and other animals, and is informative about local culture. He always takes care about safety and well-being of the trekkers. On his recommendation, we did small acclimatization hikes every day after the main trek to ensure we are well used to the inceasing altitude, which really helped to prevent any symptoms of altitude sickness. And on top of all that, he also has a great sense of humour and never-ending positive energy! For sure we'll go with Resham again on any of our future...
