This is of the best cycling and foot bridges I've ever seen...with an amazing views, especially during the sunset time. Slick design, amazing views, especially during the sunset times. The bridge is a connector between the OLD and a NEW city. It spans the busy Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and connects the city’s east side with Diemerpark and via this park with the new residential area IJburg. The bridge consists of a 160-metre middle section and two approaches, which are 255 and 270 metres long respectively. These long approach routes provide an easy gradient for users. Pedestrians can ascend on both sides via a stairway. It is an award-winning cycle and footbridge in the Netherlands and was designed by Jim Eyre of London-based Wilkinson Eyre Architects. Cyclists reach the middle section via curling approach routes. It has been opened from 7 June 2006 for cyclists onwards. The cost: € 12.2 million9

The Nescio Bridge, officially named Jan Schaeferbrug, spans the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and serves as a vital transportation link. Completed in 2006, it stands out with a 780-meter-long main span and a striking 125-meter-tall asymmetrical pylon. The bridge's design, resembling a harp, features stay cables supporting the deck. Architect Ben van Berkel and structural engineer Christian Ubbink collaborated on its construction. The Nescio Bridge not only facilitates vehicular and bicycle traffic but also offers stunning panoramic views of Amsterdam. Its name pays homage to the Dutch author Nescio, reflecting the city's literary and cultural heritage.

Ijburg is one of my favorite directions for cycling. The reason is Nesciobrug. This bridge was designed by Jim Eyre and named after Dutch writer Nescio. It was built in 2006. It is 780 meters and has 2 roads - bicycle and pedestrian. The design of the bridge was awarded the National Steel Prize due to its elegance.

The Nesciobrug is a stunning modern bridge dedicated solely to cyclists and pedestrians, offering one of the most picturesque routes into Amsterdam. Its elegant, swooping design makes crossing the River IJ feel almost cinematic—especially at sunset, with panoramic views of the water and city skyline.

Why it’s great:

Car-free safety (a cyclist’s dream!) and smooth, wide paths.

Connects Amsterdam-Oost to the Rietlandpark area seamlessly.

A quieter alternative to the busy ferry routes, perfect for a leisurely ride.

Minor gripes: It can get windy, and some ramps are steep for casual bikers. But overall, a must-cross for its views and efficiency.

Tip: Stop midway for photos—the industrial-waterfront vibe is...
