Brasserie Vrijburcht — Restaurant in Amsterdam

The food is great, the place itself is very cozy - all in all, if you are in IJburg it's worth the visit.

BUT, I had a really unpleasant experience the last time I was there. First, we were told we can't paid by credit card. That was actually not true (as I also explained to the staff), as I paid by the same card two times in the 10 days before my last visit! Turned out that yes, I can indeed pay with my card but then I was given a looong speech about the 5% she (the owner I take it) was being charged for every transaction; the speech included an explanation of how she was trying to keep the prices affordable, etc. - frankly, not my problem really.. I did feel like I was robbing her! To make matters worse, the transaction was taking some time (I'm talking a minute here) and the lady told us, very impolitely, that she's got no time as she's got 20 coffees to make.

With all honesty, the first two times I was at this place the service was really nice so I guess it's just the owner (if she was the owner) that didn't know anything about making customers happy. Not to mention that the 2.5 EUR she 'lost' because of me are not causing her a much higher loss: firstly, I'm not going back to this place; and secondly, I am going to give this as an example of extremely poor...

Rude, cold, impersonal and rushed service (except for the curly haired girl who was lovely) - we had reserved online through their website and our request was ignored (we had asked for a table worthy of a 5year anniversary, and got placed at one of the worse seats in the house). Especially the older waiter's general attitude was unacceptable. The food was good but nothing special, it's fresh and it's well decorated on a plate but our steak was tough with congealed sauce (probably had been sitting too long at service before having been brought to our table), little extras like bread would have been welcome. Finally the table was sticky, don't expect tablecloth service here though they do act like a 5star it is simply a 3 star. The redeeming point of the evening is the location! We had a wonderful lunch at Restaurant Vrijburcht with my parents, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The pasta with fresh truffle was a real highlight — rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. To finish, we enjoyed a cheese platter paired with a glass of white port, which was simply delightful.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed meal together. What really stood out, however, was the service. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home — friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. It truly made the whole experience special.
