Very nice place, it is indeed very large inside. The staff was a bit odd, to start with:
Two people entered before me and my friend. They weren't allowed to bring in their bags. So my friend and I wanted to hand in ours too, the lady replied: you guys are all right take your bag with you. She said we could also take pictures, we were allowed except others weren't...
The boys, guessing it's a family business, were following our every move, literally. It did my head in and I got dead annoyed at some point. When taking a picture he immediately turned to me: you cant take pictures ! I said the lady said we could..... when making a comment on finally a museum mentioning that Hugo Boss was in fact the manufacturer of the clothing this little dude started telling me a lot, appreciate it, but if I wanted to say something he immediately stopped me and continued his story. He knew best, he knew all. The rest of our visit we didn't ask anything, i explained most to my friend. When entering the part with radios and all sorts, I said oh hm I wonder where mine is ( i'm a collector. ) and this other lad started telling us stories, again, interrupting me, he knew better. We didn't ask.
When leaving the place, this lady made a strange comment about the Germans. And also said "We do not buy anything from anyone. Ww2 shouldn't be sold but donated. No one should sell ww2 objects"... when they have a little shop in the back selling objects for quite a price....
Overall experience: love love love the museum. The experience and visit...
Read morePricey trip. Quite an Array of things, packed actually . The Tour Guide was wonderful. Great speaking, very friendly younger man with a beard. The museum is packed full of ww2 equipment, uniforms, signs, letters and so much from the action around the Arnhem Area. The garage at the start was nice as they runs Nd the tour guide was there to greet us.
The upsets was Absolutely the entry free. €25 we paid EACH!!! Sure you can argue the amount of content but the Tank Museum in England was £15 for warehouses full of tanks. This was a medium sized ex schoolhouse with things the owner is supposed to have found. Lots of community donation and we have already come 20 minutes out from the town centre. I understand upkeep costs but these items have all been sitting round for a while.
Plus there are not only memorabilia sales but antique ww2 things to buy.
However if someone tells me the museum doesn't get much foot traffic I can understand and will be happy if I have contributed to a museum that could do with the help.
There wasn't much of a gift shop at the end. Books and some LEGO which is cool.
I would have liked some Airborne Gifts (Hip flasks, patches etc).
So apart from the entry fee which should DEFINITELY be lowered We had a good time and the tour guide explained everything wonderfully and spoke great english.
You will need to hand in your bags at the start...
Read moreWhat an awesome place . Spent a good 3.5 hours looking through a fantastic collection , friendly staff with great knowledge and time to talk. Ive been to many museums like this but this has to be the best with soooo many pieces . I was told it is only small but i was mis-guided as it is rammed full with descriptions in English , dutch and German on most of the displays . Sat afterwards having a coffee facing a plane that is outside relaxing and thoughts of the history of how the collection came to be . Absolutely 100% recommend a visit if you are in the area BUT allow a few hours to take in what you are seeing . For a collector of military pieces like myself it is a little gem .. i will definitely be visiting again to view this privately owned collection as it needs the funds and support to remain open to tell the story of the struggles mainly of Arnhem and surrounding area . Never to be forgotten 🙏🏻 10 out of 10 marks in my...
