An old style open air museum. Lots of space and place to run around. Limited number of visitors the autumn holiday day we visited. Historical houses, farms, school, church, blacksmith and woodworkers place. Late nineteenth and first half of twentieth century household equipment, handworker spaces in the landscape of Drenthe, which already feels old by itself. Small playground for the children, op to 12 years. Nothing special, but space to make your own play. Small souvenir shop and a large pancake restaurant. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Little notes on the doors in old fashioned handwriting make you think of the volunteers putting their love and dedication into the place. It's not fancy, nor exciting. Calmly soothing the soul of having too much entertainment and stress in this century. Only limited attention for the giants Ellert and Brammert, that was a pity. We loved the place, maybe because it was...

The place is very simple. It's fully run by very devoted volunteers and consists of about 20 small old cottages showing how simple people lived in the middle ages up till a hundred years ago. There is also a flock of sheep, some chickens and pigs which the small kids can visit (a bit of a petting zoo). It also includes a nice children's playground in the center.

The whole place takes it's name from an old local folktale (of the giants ellert and brammert), however this is barely mentioned or explained in the whole park outside of a short text in the guidebook.

The entrance fee is reasonable. Mostly nice for parents with small kids and the elderly (with or without...

Nice place to visit if you stay in the area! Some education about Dutch history is always good for the kids and the parents. Who doesn't want to learn about 'holbewoners' Ellert en Brammert. The place has a nice restaurant which looks very traditional and folkloric. Pancakes were tasty. The play area is okay but don’t expect too much of it. People are really friendly and they take time for all guests to show all the old crafts and ways of working in the olden days.

Lovely little museum. Could be a bit better taken care of, but we appreciated the silence and the fresh air. Would be nice if they would accept the museum card...then we would visit more often. Not so nice that they decided to close the restaurant in advance, like 1h before closing time.
