Country Shop Mekkerstee — Attraction in Goeree-Overflakkee

Its an ok place. Electric fences where the goats were is rather odd. Birds are in cages. So not sure what is the purpose of the "farm" part. Also when my son tried to give some of the grass that they were feeding the animals they didn't seem happy about it. If it were some other type of food I would understand, but it was exactly what they were giving. Odd The playground is alright but the jumping thing there were some very stupid parents. They put their babies. Yes babies. And expected that the older kids wouldn't jump on them. That was just ridiculous and tbh rather dutch because I've seen this stupid behavior elsewhere. The food was alright nothing special. Not ridiculously expensive but also not cheap. I think its a hyped up kinderboerderij that is actually not a kinderboerderij. And a park that's actually not a park. They also didn't have much to sell or maybe I missed it? I think the purpose was mainly to make money from the restaurant. And feed the expensive food for the German tourists around. Would I come back? Nope! Not worth it, considering the several amazing options in the...

Goat farm with restaurant, country store and playground. The reason I give this place 2 stars of because of animal welfare reasons. There are several small cages with chickens, pheasants and turkeys that had little room and no shade from the hot sun. The goats were clearly affected by the hot weather, lying against wood fences or concrete slabs in order to get their body temperature down and breathing heavily. And there were three small ponies in a corral without shelter from the sun, their eyes covered with flies and just standing there motionless and rather apathetic. Please provide these animals with some shade; it's easily done, provide the ponies with some insect masks against the flies and provide a cool environment...

The 'Mekkerstee' is a nice destination for specifically younger kids and their parents. Large spacious area to see the goats and how they live. Next to goats there's also a shed with rabbits and little chicken. And a playground for young kids. Unfortunately, during Covid-19 pandemic very busy; people not adhering to social distancing and no focus on that from personnel. Large parking lot.
