De oorsprong van de kerk ligt in de 12e en 13e eeuw en was gewijd aan de heilige Magdalena die ook stadspatrones van Goes was. De oorspronkelijke kerk brande in 1618 af maar werd met enige aanpassingen en uitbreidingen herbouwd in de oorspronkelijke laatgotische stijl. Er worden nog steeds kerkdiensten gehouden maar dan alleen in het transept en koor. De rest van de kerk is tentoonstellingsruimte en toen ik er een bezoek bracht was er een boekenmarkt.

Totdat... je het zgn. Marcussenorgel ziet, als het ware bekroond door de zgn. Turkse Kap. Niet alleen mooi om te zien, ook om te horen. Tip: in de zomer vinden er wekelijks (markt)concerten op dit orgel plaats!

Een echt heel mooie kerk. Wij zijn binnengestapt rond middaguur voor het beluisteren van een orgelconcert. Wat een accoustiek zeg! Heerlijk van genoten zo rustig luisteren naar het prachtige orgelspel in deze grote ruimte! Na het concert konden wij de schilderijtentoonstelling nog bekijken en er was een kleine markt met 2e hands spullen, zoals boeken en dergelijke. Kortom het was het bezoek...
