Marius van Dokkum Museum — Attraction in Harderwijk

Great museum with very thoughtful artwork. Artist put layers and layers of meanings on every work of his. His works are not only great looking, humorous and look professional, but also they are quite insightful about the times we live today.

Marius van Dokkum combines the old looking art style with the modern meaning (e.g. Rembrandt's style with every person looking at their smartphones).

It's very recommended to take the audio guide. They help to fully emerge in the Marius's art and understand all the meaning he put behind his work.

They don't have a luggage storage, but personnel was so nice that they let us leave our luggage behind the counter.

Overall, I'd recommend visiting this museum to anyone.

Tijdens mijn recente bezoek aan het Marius van Dokkum Museum in Harderwijk, was ik onder de indruk van zowel de kunst als de unieke sfeer van het museum. Het museum is gewijd aan de werken van de bekende Nederlandse kunstenaar Marius van Dokkum, die vooral bekend staat om zijn humoristische en soms melancholische schilderijen.

Marius van Dokkum, geboren in 1950, heeft een bijzondere stijl ontwikkeld die vaak het dagelijks leven en menselijke emoties op een treffende manier vastlegt. Het museum, dat in 2016 werd geopend, is gevestigd in een prachtig historisch pand dat perfect aansluit bij de charmante ambiance van Harderwijk. De keuze om het werk van Van Dokkum hier tentoon te stellen, maakt het museum tot een unieke bestemming voor zowel kunstliefhebbers als casual bezoekers.

Bij binnenkomst werd ik verwelkomd door een overzicht van zijn meest iconische werken, die goed zijn ingedeeld in verschillende thema's. De expositie biedt een blik op de evolutie van zijn stijl en techniek. De informatieve bordjes naast de schilderijen geven interessante achtergrondinformatie, waardoor je nog meer waardering krijgt voor zijn kunst.

Hoewel het museum relatief klein is, zorgt de intieme setting voor een aangename ervaring. Echter, ik vond de ruimte soms wat te krap voor de hoeveelheid kunstwerken die er tentoongesteld worden. Dit maakte het moeilijk om in alle rust van de schilderijen te genieten.

Al met al vond ik het Marius van Dokkum Museum een waardevolle aanvulling op het culturele aanbod van Harderwijk. Very nice little museum from the artist who it is named after. This museum is definitely worth the visit if you want to have a fun time. The paintings give you a very unique view and the artist portrays it so well. There is a touch of humour here and there in the artists artwork which makes it all the more fun. For English speaking people, I don’t think there is an English version of the audio tour which they give to everyone on entry but you can nonetheless enjoy the paintings without...
