Fat Dirck Grill Restaurant — Restaurant in Harderwijk

We were welcomed by a very unpleasant waitress. She was pushing us to order where we only sat down for 5 min and menus are only in Dutch so it does take time to translate! We then ordered a steak, we asked which one was the most fatty one and she recommended one (cannot remember how it’s called) and asked if we would like peppercorn sauce without mentioning it’s an extra.. (remember we can’t read Dutch). She said all mains comes with chips (kids had burgers) and I said I don’t eat chips and if I can have vegetables instead , she said yeah no problem we have asparagus or grilled veg, is ordered the asparagus. The stakes came overly done and tasteless and we were missing a portion of chips. When we asked we were told a story that 2 mains share a side? Just as a reminder, we were specifically told that ALL mains comes with chips… . It took them nearly 10 min to bring the extra portion of chips but when the bill came in they charged us extra for the sauce, chips and asparagus! Talk about lying to your customers… I explained the lady at the till that this wasn’t what the waitress explained to us and we shouldn't be charged for the chips and asparagus but she couldn’t care less, she agreed to take off only the chips and I couldn’t waste more time there having tired kids with me. Very poor experience and seevice, I wouldn’t recommend...

This restaurant has a nice ambience. The interior is well-designed and really sets the mood. It is cosy yet spatial & retro yet modern. The food is decorated nicely and I can't dislike the style. Unfortunately though, the hamburger I received was almost entirely raw inside. The inside doesn't look as great as the outside. Next to that, it even had a bitter piece of burned meat or charcoal on it. This left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth that I couldn't even wash away with two gulps of my Pepsi. After all, the experience I had here was exactly that. Good at first sight but it left me with a bitter aftertaste, as the Dutch saying goes. One person I was with ordered spareribs. Others had a taste from that and said it was really good; it looked amazing too. The staff was nice too, even though I heard some negative stories. They apologised for the hamburger and asked if I wanted a replacement. That was really nice and they handled the situation quite well. Therefore I can't give it any less than 2 stars, but not much more than that either. If I had the choice, I would probably go to another restaurant next time. There are enough to find in the city...

Our friends who live in the area took us here last night and the whole experience was exceptional. The menus were only in Dutch but Google Translate coupled with some input from our waitress and we were all sorted. The food was all perfectly cooked (3 of us opted for the Dirck mixed platter which came with salmon, a steak, ribs, rotisserie chicken and some sides) the others all went for burgers. For me, the steak and salmon were the stars of the show. Although the burgers came cooked medium rare (which is how they should be imo), my pregnant wife had to send hers back to be cooked all the way through. They happily accommodated this request and sorted it her. Desserts were also very good, can recommend the brownie!
