De Eilander Balgexpres — Attraction in Schiermonnikoog

It's a long ride to the end of the island, during the ride there was additional information about the island, some of the natural phenomena etc. When we arrived we were greeted by gray seals basking in the sun and we found a few wulk shells among a bit of other beach treasure. There is no guarantee you'll see any. We stayed about 45 minutes.

There's a tour each Thursday that takes a guide along from Natuurmonumenten. You also get a 10% discount if you're a member of Natuurmonumenten.

Be sure to check the weather forecast, it can be very wet and windy. We ended up booking a wind quiet day with a nice partially overcast sky.

The way back was quick and with no further information. My daughter enjoyed a Sudoku on the phone and staring in wonder at the 20cm big oyster shell she had found.

Total trip...

Loved riding all the way to the end of Schiermonnikoog. Takes 45 minutes to get there. We had half an hour to explore a bit. And the tractor driver brought a telescope so we could see the seals laying about on the next sandbar. Would never had made it all the way out...

De ervaring met de Balgexpres viel tegen. Het is te duur. De rit naar de Balg is leuk. We hebben tijdens de rit voornamelijk meeuwen en aalscholvers gezien, naast een dode zeehond. Op de Balg hebben we een stop van een half uur gehad. In de verte zagen we veel zeehonden. Verrekijker is noodzakelijk. Daarnaast schelpen verzamelen. Vervolgens de rit terug. Bij ons viel het beslaan van de ramen mee. Wat ik had verwacht is een gids of bestuuder van de tractor met een informatief verhaal over het ontstaan van de Balg, flora en fauna e.d. De boxen hingen in de balgexpres echter zwegen zij de gehele rit. Jammer, een gemiste kans...
