I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ecomare in Texel, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I entered the park, I was captivated by the serene beauty of the surroundings. Ecomare offers a fantastic combination of natural wonders, interactive exhibits, and educational experiences, making it an ideal destination for both nature enthusiasts and families.
One of the highlights of my visit was the impressive aquarium. As I wandered through its corridors, I was mesmerized by the vibrant marine life on display. The aquarium's diverse range of species, beautifully recreated habitats, and informative displays provided a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world. It was a true delight to witness the colorful fish, graceful seahorses, and intricate coral formations up close.
The outside pools, featuring the playful seals, were another standout feature of Ecomare. These intelligent creatures put on a captivating show, showcasing their agility and charm. I spent quite a while observing their antics, and it was a truly joyful experience. The pools are spacious, providing ample opportunities for the seals to swim and interact, making it a treat to watch them in their natural environment.
Ecomare also boasts a well-appointed restaurant that offers excellent value for money. I found the prices to be reasonable, and the food was delicious. It was a welcome respite after exploring the park, and I appreciated the variety of options available. Whether you're craving a quick bite or a satisfying meal, the restaurant caters to different tastes and preferences.
What sets Ecomare apart is its dedication to providing an interactive and educational experience. Throughout the park, you'll find informative films and detailed explanations that enhance your understanding of the marine ecosystem and the importance of conservation. This immersive approach ensures that visitors of all ages leave with a deeper appreciation for the environment and a desire to protect it.

Great place and for sure a must-visit on the island of Texel. The museum is absolutely great, three languages are available on most of the stations and in addition you can rent an audio guide at the entrance for 1 Euro. The outdoor area contains the porpoises, seals and a walk through the sand dunes with different learning stations. The seals and porpoises make Ecomare the perfect place for kids - my twins were super happy and didn't want to go anymore. Lately they were talking about the seal adoption possibility for hours (you can adopt a seal for 48 Euro per year and receive a entry ticket as well as a picture of your seal as well as some informational stuff by mail). No question - 5 stars.
Read moreEcomare is a beautiful museum and reservation for seals and birds. We decided to go here without any planning or expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised. The museum offered a lot of information about the animal population of Texel. We first entered the exposition about the Waddensea. Nearly all information points are interactive and offer interesting information about Texel and the sea surrounding the island. The exposition had a modern look and gave relevant, contemporary info.
After this we went to the 'Wadden City'. The area was divided into different 'shops', each about a different animal/subject on Texel. This area was interesting, educational and fun to explore. Every corner was interactive and had a fun way of educating people about the animals, but also the consequences of environmental damage. I really enjoyed the 'phonecall with a sea gull', as it really gave the information a personal touch.
While we were exploring this area, an intercom told us the feeding of the seals was about to start. Really appreciate the call, as I wouldn't want to miss this! The staffmember who fed the seals was very enthusiastic and gave a lot of information about each kind of seal. He also gave information about the rescue shelter where sick or hurt seals and birds were nursed back to health.
The room which surprised us most, was the sea aquarium. We entered the aquarium through the door next to the sealtank, after which we were shocked by the size of the aquarium. The aquarium was beautiful and allows people to see the animals they had just read about from up close.
I definetly recommend visiting Ecomare when you get the chance, it's a beautiful place where you can spend about 3 hours....
