I can't believe that animals are still allowed to live like this, the cages are suuuuuper small! I saw many many spiders, living in tini tiny glass boxes. But also the snakes and other reptiles, like the small crocodiles live in extremely small cages, really very sad to see. It's like they do not care at all about the well-being of the animals. I imagine what life these animals live and i'm afraid they are just in the boxes by themselves until they die, getting a cricket a day to not starve...this is really not ok. I really don't understand why they need like 25 types of tarantulas, who all live horrible sad lives, instead of having maybe 5 tarantulas in decent cages because honestly, the ones that are there now hardly have space to walk. To me, practices like this should be illegal and it makes me wonder how they collected all these animals. The problem with zoos is that people think it's nice to see these animals in real life, while we actually capture them, make them live horrible lives just for the fun of us watching them? Only humans can be this cruel, and that for the sake of entertainment and teaching the...

Animals, dinosaurs, art and contraband; this place has it all!

A rather inconspicuous place near the local horeca school, the Oliemeulen has its fair share of animals to see, starting off strong with the gift shop to the terrariums filled with frogs and spiders. So if you’ve got some fear it’s setting makes it easy to talk passed the first part.

There is information of each animal available although the lighting isn’t always as great to read it.

I particularly love how the zoo has a very casual feel to it; they tell you NOT to touch or bother the animals, but if you really wanted to you could put your arm In the crocodile exhibit and find out why they have rules.

There’s a bat and armadillo that have easy access, making the whole experience much nicer.

You can “adopt” animals by contributing a fee to help with their upkeep.

The zoo handles in confiscated animals and goods to raise awareness and offers them a place to live. Very nice.

Also there are some whacky dinosaur and animatronics scattered along the park that’s quite...

After reading some positive reviews I decided to visit the "Zoo". I deeply regreat and the reasons are: I feel terrible sorry for the animals that are in small rooms, with no light or ventilation. 3 crocodiles in a small room with a small " 2 square meter water pool. the worst is that they mention 1,5 meter diatance and the place was unbeliavable crowed (never even possible to give one meter distance) We decided to leave when one of the rooms was so crowed that we could not walk and the WC was exploding with people almost running over each other to get in and out.... - In covid Delta times, it is unbeliavable that there was no time slot... They kept letting people in... Before we left we spoke to the girt at the entrance and explained the reason we were leaving.. she simple looked to us and said: " I understand" Dont put your money there in respect of the animals and even worse no respect...

A little zoo, but with a very interesting collection of animals. There are lots of spiders and reptiles! All animal info is labeled in NL/EN. The staff gave us a poster with animal photos and a marker so we could check off animals that we saw. There was an especially kind employee who led the animal demonstration; she knew that we spoke English, so she translated everything she said just for us. ♿️🚼 There is sizable, separate toilet for handicapped people and people with babies. It had a fully equipped changing station.
