A woods with some really old trees that weren't cut down during the war. Lying just behind the dykes that protect North Walcheren from the North Sea it's a popular place but large enough to hide a lot of the other misanthropes resenting human intrusion. The woods were originally part of various landed estates and hunting grounds so you'll find vestiges of that formality everywhere. Sometimes it doesn't feel like an old forest even though it is. A lot of it was left to run wild during the war and the trees have twisted themselves into weird and wonderful shapes. The sea is accessible via paths over the dunes some less travelled than others, all with great views. This whole area is connected and equally worth exploring- dunes deer, fungi etc. Mondriaan painted here (though not as a Cubist obviously) and it's worth listening to the podcast of Mina and Mevrouw since they were here too which is what brought us.
