What an amazing experience! We heard about this place from one of the “top 10 things to do in Christchurch” lists and we were really glad we went. For a very reasonable $47 NZD you get three hours to swing, climb, and zip to your heart’s content. After a brief intro safety session, we had a trial run on a beginner course and then had the option of choosing from a variety of courses of increasing difficulty/height. We ended up doing 3, 4, and 5b, all of which were amazing. Although we were swinging and hanging way up in the trees, I felt safe the entire time as the harnesses and clips kept us securely fastened in. I also appreciate that the staff kept a close eye on everyone and were immediately available if any issues arose.
A couple of things to note: it definitely requires physical strength to pull yourself up and along some of the more challenging courses, so be sure you have the upper and lower body strength before you jump in.
Also, getting to/from Adrenalin Forest can be a challenge if you don’t have your own transport. We took an Uber out there, but then got stuck on the way back bc we didn’t realize that buses don’t head to that part of town (and it’s apparently outside of Uber’s pickup range as well!). Luckily, the staff at Adrenalin Forest were kind enough to help us get a taxi for our ride home. Thanks! Just something to think about if you head out there—you may want to schedule an Uber or taxi at a specific time to come pick you up afterwards.
FYI, there’s free Wi-Fi at Spencer Park across the street.
This is definitely a must do if you’re in Christchurch! One of the best things we did...
Read moreI came here with my wife to celebrate her birthday as there was a coupon on GrabOne for a 50% off special. We had an absolute blast! We were on location during a school day so there were a few school groups that were crawling around, but we never had any sort of delay climbing through all the obstacle courses because of them. So there is plenty of room for lots of people to be climbing and playing all at the same time!
There are several different difficulties of there obstacle courses. The harder they are the higher you end up in the tree canopy. The difficulty of the obstacles vary within the courses, but generally there are ways to "cheat" your way across if you don't have good upper body strength. If you are scared of heights don't worry, the lower level difficulties are still enjoyable and they are much closer to the ground. On windy days the higher obstacle levels will sway as the wind batters the tops of the trees, as scary as this might be you are in no real danger. You are ALWAYS hooked into a safety line, so there is virtually no risk of falling to the ground.
Guests are welcome to bring there own picnics to eat on-site. The biggest downside to the location is that there is no bathroom within the grounds of the park itself. You will have to walk to the campgrounds across the street and use theirs. In regards to the staff and obstacle course I have nothing negative to say, this was a great experience and my wife thought it was a great way to...
Read moreHorrible experience. I’m an experienced rock climber for context. I was absolutely appalled at the staff. During the health and safety briefing, my friend who’s less experienced, was having trouble with the safety clips and while she was struggling, the staff member, Cory moved onto the next part of the segment leaving me to explain something he gets paid to do, incompetent teaching and health and safety violation. Later during the day my brothers equipment got jammed 15m in the air and instead of trying to assist, Cory and the other two staff members just stood there and stared. Even 20 minutes later, as my brother was still stuck they made little move to try help. So keep in mind that if anything goes wrong with your equipment (eg gets tangled or twisted) while your in the air, the staff members will not or do very little to help you....
