We started our experience with easy accessible parking just outside the entrance, and upon entrance we were met with friendly staff and affordable entrance fees. We were given a map and worked our way through the vast collection of vintage cars. Not only cars, but trucks met our gaze as we walked through the variety of rooms. Different sections of the exhibit were interactive keeping the kids entertained, including but not only: a pool table, construction centre (kids room) and 5 vehicles which you could board yourself. These features kept the kids involved and excited.
Every single car and truck had a wonderful shining finish that not only when looked upon reflected your face but the hard work of Bill Richardson and the restoration team at Bill Richardson Transport World. The detail the team went to such as putting cut up tires on the stairs highlighted the efforts put in by everyone involved. Unfortunately when our group went the cafe was closed but still we didn't struggle to enjoy our experience none the less. Overall I was blown away at this visit to Invercargill not only because of the harsh southerly winds but because of the efforts at conservation and restoration of Bill...
Read moreIf you are a fan of automobiles - and even if not - you should visit Bill Richardson Transport World if you're in Invercargill.
The array of vintage cars, trucks, tractors, buses and even miscellaneous vintage engines, prime movers would blow your mind. This private collection should possibly be one of the largest in the world.
Starting with the Ford models that are arranged in chronological order, to the retro ice cream trucks, vehicles used for farming, World War era vehicles, old school buses etc you have pretty much everything a vintage automobile lover would like to see. They even have a number of petrol pumps and other accessories like wheel caps, logos, insignias etc.
Every single vehicle is meticulously cleaned, they just shine so nicely! I can see the effort put into maintaining such a large collection of vehicles - which is commendable.
They have a good gift shop and a very nice cafe, where the tables are made from dance floor boards. Nice coffee and a decent selection of food and cakes.
This is an amazing place and you will marvel at the effort taken to build and maintain a place...
Read moreThis has to be one of the best truck and early Ford collections in the world. Has a cafe attached and plenty of seating around the very large complex. Easy to find in Invercargill and the side streets seem to soak up parking. There is also the usual gift shop but perhaps the best souvenir is the thumb drive with the exclusive videos shown in the museum plus many 700? still images. It is $40(2019) and in the shape of the Flume petrol tanker. The exhibits cover trucking both the both the local Southland and the whole of NZ as well some very nice unique trucks from the US such as the iconic Flume Tanker and a set bought in Calgary Canada. They also have a large and unique well restored collection of fuel Bowser's and associated garage fore court. They also have vast collections of genuine signage. Other different items include early clothing and also the latest in alternative fashion as part of an awards night ran at the venue. A turbo pass allowing multiple admissions is...
