The amount of bird life here is astounding. Spotted over 16 different species - pied oystercatcher, stilt, plover, wrybill, dotterel, tern, red-billed gull, black swan, heron, kingfisher, black backed gull, mallard, alongside unexpected bush birds -chaffinch, piwakawaka, starling, sparrow. The path is gravel and well maintained. You'll need binoculars to see much of the flocks of birds at the shoreline, otherwise very easy to walk past and miss birds camouflaging. Incredible place to visit and especially aweing to see the 'bird clouds/swarm' take off in light! Unbelievable this is only a 20 min drive from CBD. This one is very easy to walk, especially for hiking beginners to start with. 20 minutes away from the city downtown in South. Basically it's walking surrounded the Wayercare waste water facility.
No impressive view though.
Due to some ongoing projects original tracks were blocked we had to take alternative paths. Normally it takes 1.5 hours to complete. Today we took more than two hours to make it.
