Great visit to the wetland reserve. Good place to stretch your legs and see some eels on your drive. Public toilets are located nearby and there are a few spots for self-contained campers. There is a donation collection at the entrance, the site is managed by local volunteers. You can also visit the natural clothing shop to see their great selection of clothes and pick up some eel food, a second donation point is in the shop to give money towards the food and upkeep of the site.

A great place to visit and see the clear running water and native plants in conjunction with the information provided for these amazing creatures. My granddaughter had a new experience feeding the eels which she appeared to enjoy. Well done to all those involved in creating the WOPWOPS

The spot is right of the highway and a bit hidden. It was a cool stop on our route and the clothing store next to it was a bonus (very nice merino clothes at very good prices). I would recommend seeing the fish if you’re going that way anyways! :)

This place is called new Zealand natural clothing company and is tops for buying your winter clothing needs. It is most famous for their Norwood socks as this is where they are made. There is also other crafts available for purchase as well. Maori carving is carved and sold here also and the master carver lives on site and will carve to order and what you want. The wet lands have been created for out door enjoyment where you can feed the eels and wonder through the newly planted native trees. It is an on going project until the about 3 acres of land is turned into a tipical native new Zealand is created here. There is even a bq for your enjoyment weather permitting. Definitely a place to shop and relaxed. Just ask for Phil,Julie or Jeff and they will take care...

Situated next door to NZ Natural Clothing store this is an ongoing conservation project which relies on donations and volunteers. You may hand feed the eels with food from NZ Natural clothing store ,but no bread please.and they can bite. Long fun eels can live up to 100 years. A small walkway which is still being constructed meanders through wetland habitat. There is a site for...
