Great place for information on the areas history, nature and walks. Nearby there's a model dam and a treasure trail on the walk where you can test your knowledge and learn cool new facts about NZ's wildlife! Pick up a quiz sheet and return for answers at the visitor centre. Takes about 30 mins return. Clean toilets in car park. Take away maps available on walks in the area. All free. One of the staff was very friendly and helpful but minus points for the unfriendly and inattentive staff who let the place down!

Great hike with varied experiences. A relatively steady climb to the hut, with a lot of large stone steps. The hut is large and there is gas to cook on. Rooms are shared with approx 20 other people, accommodating 80. Must book. The hike to the summit has a lot of stairs but otherwise relatively not to difficult. The last reach to the summit is a vertical ladder climb. Overall a great hike I completed with my 11 year old son. Will do again and explore further.

It's a fine place to ask for extra info on the Coromandel tracks. We came to find out about the possibility of climbing the Pinnacles. While the lady behind the counter was helpful don't expect Doc stuff will make a decision for you. They give you everything you need to be aware, safe and prepare for what you decide to do. This place also includes loads of information on the nearby nature and animals, great toilets and potable water. It's just a nice place to visit if you are a little bit stuck and need help.

And then the Pinnacles...
