Luckily, we arrived before lunch to obtain a good space for our tent any later we may not of got a space to camp. You are only allowed to stay for 3 nights, then you must must move on so others can have a turn at camping. The Huka falls river was just beautiful and so clean and clear. Lots of longdrop portaloos supplied all over the camp ground and just a few wash basins. Lots of safety checks by Security / Police patrols are carried out during the day / night - 👍👍. Only let down are the portaloos, which need constant cleaning care and the lack of wash basins supplied. Rate 7 out of 10. Well done Lake Taupo Council - Keep up the...

AKA Rieds Farm, The only best free camping spot in Taupo. Insanely clear water that flows to the huka falls, great for cooling down during summer. Best to arrive early to secure a level spot specially during summer as the camping spots gets filled up pretty quickly. Also be ready for those "last minute" campers that would try and squeeze into spots at stupid o'clock at night sometimes but overall, quiet and peaceful place to camp. Theres also a choice of either portaloos or long drop toilets on site with...

Was such a wonderful idea having a freedom camping spot run by security. Love the scenary and people are friendly. Long drops and portacoms are kept clean and upto date on tp. Loved it honestly. Just a shame that they didn't open more space down towards the river up specially around new years when the place was jammed pack with campers. They've got all this extra place down the bottom end it would've had more people further apart (covid things you know) i will definitely go back i just hop they open the other...

No running water nor electricity making this a great place for a taste of camping. No bon fire allowed but a BBQ stove with charcoal was all we need for the marshmallows. A dip in the Huka river was a gift in a hot day. Quiet at night and all we can hear was Tui singing. Great location too as it’s really close to Taupo city centre. Enjoyed our 2 nights stay there and hope we can visit again soon. You can pick the spot for your tent if arrive early afternoon. But people still finding place ok even arriving at midnight. Enjoy!

If you are going there for camping plz be aware for this tent and table. Apparently this "public table" belongs to the owner of the tent just because she set the tent next to it. We were using the table this afternoon and she went nuts completely when she saw it. She shouted to us " get back to your country" and even tried to use knife to attack us. I thought it's a public camping spot for everyone traveling in Taupo, but actually it has been occupied from some dodgy people as long term accommodation.
