You can’t miss the Hobbiton sign at the entrance to the site — it’s your very first glimpse of the Shire’s magic. Weathered wood and elegant lettering set the tone right away: everything here is designed to immerse you in Tolkien’s world from the very first second.

It’s obviously the must-stop spot for your first souvenir photo before starting the tour — solo, as a couple, or in a group, everyone pauses here to capture the moment.

Even though it’s “just” the entrance, it already promises what’s waiting beyond: rolling hills, round doors, and full immersion.

The tour through Hobbiton starts here with a quick chat with the tour guide, with an last opportunity for a bathroom break prior to the tour starting. After answering a few trivia questions to earn a free drink later at the Green Dragon (included regardless) we headed though the clearing cut (the narrow path Gandalfs cart followed) and got out first view of Hobbiton and Bag End high on the hill...

Jeśli ktoś czytał książki Tolkiena i na dodatek oglądał filmy o przygodach Hobbitów to koniecznie powinien udać się w to miejsce! Po drugiej trylogii (czyli filmie "Hobbit") Nowozelandczycy doszli do słusznego wniosku, żeby zbudować wioskę Shire. Miejsce oddalone 64 km od portu w Taurandze i 18 km od Matamata. Wchodząc do busa, którym zawożeni są turyści do wioski, na samym początku filmowa muzyka przenosi nas do scen z powieści Tolkiena. Po wyjściu z busa dostrzegamy malutkie domki Hobbitów. Jest ich ok. 40. Do niektórych można wejść. Wokół mnóstwo eksponatów z planu filmowego. Na ławce przed domem Bilba leży fajka Gandalfa. Na sznukach koło domków suszy się bielizna małych Hobbitów. W domku Bilba prawdziwy ogień tli się w kominku. Na każdym kroku rzecz lub gadżet przypominający sceny z filmu i wrażenia jakby przed chwilą postaci tu były. Minusem jest słabo zaopatrzony sklepik z pamiątkami. Jeden rozmiar koszulek, kapeluszy itd. Cydr słabej jakości. Te elementy na zakończenie zwiedzania psują magiczną atmosferę, w której poruszaliśmy się po Shire. Tego jeszcze Nowozelandczycy muszą się nauczyć. Mimo tych...
