My recent camping trip to Kai Iwi Lake was nothing short of spectacular. Nestled just a short drive from Dargaville in New Zealand’s Northland, this hidden gem perfectly blends natural beauty and tranquillity. The lake is stunning—crystal-clear waters shimmering under the sun, surrounded by lush greenery and soft, sandy shores that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard.
The campsite was well-maintained, with plenty of space to pitch a tent or park a campervan. Waking up to birds chirping and the gentle lapping of the lake was blissful. We spent our days swimming, kayaking, and exploring the nearby walking tracks, all while soaking in the peaceful vibe.
Evenings were just as special. Sunsets over the lake painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, and the lack of light pollution meant the stars put on a dazzling show. Sitting around a campfire with friends, roasting marshmallows, and sharing stories felt like the perfect way to unplug...

But Kai Iwi lake, I would 1000% recommend to all visitors in the area, to tourists and especially to all New Zealanders who are looking for more places to discover within our own country. Looks exactly like the pictures, has many attractions or activities to do. I came with my family there was about over 60 of us. And we went almost everyday of the week. The sand is nice and soft, people were kind and welcoming, they was also a little food truck with a dairy too. We set up our volley net and were able to have fun. Beautiful view. If your looking for somewhere beautiful, New, relaxing. This is the place to go, the water is not salty at all, and when you come out you won't feel disgusted or smell like...
