Matapōuri, situated on the Tūtūkākā Coast, is a rural settlement with 207 inhabitants according to the 2023 census. Location is approximately thirty-six kilometres northeast of Whangārei city. Famous for its golden sands and sheltered estuary, Matapōuri is a family-friendly beach for safe swimming and boogie boarding. Also ideal for snorkelling, surfing, and fishing.

Headland Track, Morrison Reserve and Track Ridge are other popular walking tracks. However, be aware of rough terrains and steep drops on some of these tracks so tracking boots are ideally more suitable than walking shoes.
