   Read moreHistorically, Whale Bay was a popular location for MÄori to launch their early whaling missions. It is an amazingly beautiful beach with crystal white sand. Currently extremely popular for fishing, mussel, and crayfish hunting.
To get there you need to do the track. Starting at the Whale Bay car park, a gravel surfaced track leads through the bush and down to the bay. The track is about half a kilometer but there are some steep steps to negotiate so moderate fitness is needed to do the track.
