The Mounds Walk As you enter the road to Mt Ruapehu it's only a short way up, be careful not to miss the sign! No dedicated parking as such however enough room on each side of the road to safely pull up and be off the road, 3-4 cars. Second time doing the walk, I would say It feels more like a 5 minute walk each way but I guess it depends if you sit at the top and have lunch, stop and read the signs or if your moving slower. Not wheel chair or pram ideal - you could do most the track but stop at the steps where it counts the most. I think its Definately worth the stop on a nice day, tick it off the list! Don't need all the gear for this one. Was good for me to try out my new child carrier since my son is Autistic and hates being restrained was good...
