Great walk along the ridges to/from Mt. Kaukau. Very exposed and therefore windy when i hiked it. Great views to kaikoura mountains (on a clear day), the western wind turbines and the coast. Trail passes through forest, ridges and agricultural ground. I finished at Mt. Kaukau as ive previously done the northern walkway. Layer up for this and wear some windproof clothes -youll need it! Not too much climbing when walking in an easterly direction. This hike feels more remote than Northern walkway and southern walkway. Mt. Kaukau is a stunning place to look over wellington. There can be livestock on the trail from farms through the...

Really close to where I live, there's parking for walkers and cyclists, assuming courteous parking rather than random abandonment I've seen a few times! One way is the Skyline Walkway, heading towards Ōtari and the other, across the road, is one of the principal access points to the Mākara Peak Mountain Bike Park where I go walking and running most days! I love the place and pinch myself I live...

Skyline is a really nice walk and cycle route, linking Mt KauKau (above Johnsonville) in the north to Makara Peak at the southern end. There are plenty of entry/exit points all along the path, so your outing can be as long or short as you like.

A delightful track to have fun and work out if you are looking for some activities during the weekend. The views are awesome but in some roads and tracks you may feel boring because there are nothing but hills. Overall it's a great trail and it takes about 3hrs to complete the whole session.
