A beautiful place to stay in terms of its location. Awesome helpful staff too. Super close to the historic wharf, the longest in nz apparently, which you can even jump of for a swim if your brave (where the ladders are of course). Super close to the cooks cove walk too which we didn’t end up doing cause of time constraints. The holiday park itself was very busy over summer, many loud families and groups, not super great for a young no kids couple looking for a bit of east cape serenity. The toilets were a bit gross. Awesome beach access, two days, two nights 6 swims. Ka rawe!

My partner and i stayed here for 3 nights on a non powered tent site. Awesome place to stay, surrounded by beautiful NZ scenery and the iconic Tolaga bay wharf.....cooks cove walkway 2min walk up the road..... throw a stone to the beach which is great for swimming or a stroll. Highly recommend...... 5 stars.

Beautiful beach! The wharf and Cooks walkway are magic. The camp facilities are tired, locks that don't work, doors hanging off hinges, ran out of hot water, toilet paper and soap. To top it all off we woke up on site 22 in a swimming pool. Everything was wet! Lack of remorse and apology was disappointing.

Beautiful location, however park is very run down. Staff were friendly on arrival, and we had a ok spot for our tents, unfortunately the toilets closest to our plot were flooded and not cleaned during the duration of our stay, forcing us to use the facility’s in the middle of the campsite, the toilet and shower facilities are very unclean and falling apart, bits of the ceiling were hanging down, exposed pipework and wires in the bathroom.

There was no hot water for a good part of one of the days of our stay, the receptionist was quite unfriendly when we asked when the hot water would be fixed, and later we were told to read the sign at reception which said reception was closed.

Unfortunately despite the cost of the booking for our site, compared to other campsites you can tell this one is run down and the money from booking goes into the pockets of the owners instead of improvements to the campsite.

I hope in future some of the issues are resolved, as I’d love to come back to this location again, but will be looking at other campgrounds from now on.

Make sure you do any shopping before you get here, as the nearest decent grocery’s is an hour away in Gisborne, we made the mistake of travelling to the campsite first before getting grocery’s. There is a mini mart 5 mins away, but very little in the way of stock and produce, basically a...

Stayed in Tolaga Bay Holiday Park on NYE2018, which was really reasonably priced at $20/pp for a non powered tent site. You can book online too. Impressed with the facilities as soon as we walked into the office - it was well stocked with nice, attentive staff. We were given a card for entry and a wristband to denote guests from randoms. The park itself is pretty big and spacious, not crowded for the amount of people that were there. The shower was great and super clean. The kitchen doesn't have cutlery/kitchenware so bring your own. Covered outdoor areas to hang out and a little playground for pull-ups practice! The Holiday Park is right next to the beach and what a great beach it is! Had some of the best swims of the summer there. Small waves, great for learning to surf. The wharf is a pretty cool walk, great spot for astrophotography. Cooks Cove Walkway is a handy 5 mins away. We got up early for sunrise on...
