The Wainuiomata Lookout offers a unique perspective on the Wellington region, making it a worthwhile stop if you’re traveling from Wainuiomata toward Lower Hutt. The lookout provides sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Hutt River winding its way through the valley, the industrial area below, and the striking blue waters of the Wellington Harbour. Somes Island sits serenely in the middle of the sea, adding a picturesque touch to the scenery. While the industrial area may not be the most glamorous view, it contrasts beautifully with the natural features around it, highlighting the region’s blend of urban and natural elements. On a clear day, the lookout becomes even more impressive, with vibrant colors and an expansive view of the horizon. The lookout is easily accessible and perfect for a quick photo stop or to take a moment to soak in the scenery. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s a great spot to appreciate the diversity of the Wellington region.

The lookout at the top of the Wainuiomata Hill is well worth stopping at. Especially on a typical sunny Wellington day. Views across the harbour take in Matiu/Somes Island, the central city in the distance and even the Kaikoura mountains in the far distance. The views also take in Seaview/Petone and Lower Hutt as well as Mt Kaukau in the distance. The views of the city and harbour at night are also worth checking out. Great place to watch any fireworks displays too.

what an amazing place stunning views this place looks more beautiful than i imagined! Big part of the city is clearly visible from this point. As everyone says, Windy Wellington, even this lookout spot is super windy. you gotta be extreme careful with your mobile phones/camera while shooting. there’s parking for 3-4 vehicles i believe. you can spend 15-30minutes, nothing else to do

Awesome, great view but exposed in bad weather. We love the view from the lookout, you can see the whole harbour from the heads, around Wellington to Petone, and up the Hutt valley. There's a couple of bench seats, great for nibbling a pie. Worth mentioning, the small car park can only be accessed driving from Wainuiomata to Lower Hutt, if you're traveling the other way you will have to use the roundabout on the Wainuiomata side to head back...
