Queenstown is the best bike park in NZ, followed by Christchurch, then Rotorua, its got good soil and some good tracks, not as many as I thought it would though, and unlike Queenstown and ChCh where you get a ride to the top and then it's basically all down hill, Rotorua is a bit of a maze, quite easy to get lost, you'll take a track from the top and that will take you part way down the hill, then you have to ride for about 10 to 15 minutes searching for another track that you can take the rest of the way down to the shuttle, sometimes you have to do some climbing too, and what makes it even more challenging is most of the track names are in Maori, if you're going to give them Maori names then at least have the English translation on the map so people can actually pronounce the track names and remember them, I was there over 1 year ago and I only remember 3 tracks that I did, because those 3 tracks had English names.
Not to mention there's only about 2 days of the week that you can access all the trails via shuttle, because during the week they only have one shuttle running, and that shuttle only does one side of the hill, so if you want to do a track on the other side you'll have to ride back up under your own esteem, the tracks on the other side start from roughly half way down the hill too, so they are short, one of the best tracks was split enz, epic track that goes on for ages, but you have to climb for at least 45 minutes just to get to it.
Its a good park, just don't expect to be able to do downhill run sessions like you can in...

If you adore adrenaline rushes, then go for the downhill (DH) mountain bike option. There is a shuttle service that drives you up the mountain every 20-30 minutes. Take advantage of this shuttle service. You'll lose too much time and energy climbing to the start of the tracks. We paid $90 for a shared shuttle pass of 10 trips (2 persons). Depending on your skill level, 5-7 shuttle passes per person are perfect. The service runs from 10 AM to 3:30 PM.
Instead of using the local trail map, download the app Trailforks. You'll find the more recent tracks there as well. The tracks are not always properly marked, which makes it quite difficult to navigate towards the shuttle service when you are not familiar with the...
Read moreDisappointing attitude by the managers of the trust. Ban on E boards. despite overwhelming positive feedback from other park users. "BS" justification - Nothing with a motor over 300watts permitted in the park... when i pointed out that "All" E bikes are over 300watts, they simply ignored this fact. Offered to meet with, discuss and demonstrate E boards to the Trust. This was refused. No consultation of any kind made by trust when they imposed the ban. Another loss to Rotorua community, as most E boarders travel and stay in Rotorua. bringing business to local hotels and...
