This is a good stop on the Hatea River Walk or a destination in itself. It has 3 entrances for varying levels of fitness and access. All paths are good walking parths with well maintained wide tracks. Walk from the carpark (clean and tidy toilets at entrance) for a gentle up hill climb to Kauri Canopy walk. If you have strollers/ limited mobility or wheel chairs go to the second carpark up the hill (2 disabled parks) to walk amongst the tree tops. Really special to be so close to Kauri trees without risking damage. You can carry on for another 10 minutes walking to the.waterfall or drive to the 3rd carpark on Clapham road to see Mckinnon waterfalls. Heard lots of tui and piwakawaka. There are Kauri dieback stations at each entrance - pleademake sure you clean and disinfect you shoes on the way in and out so this can stay a...

This memorial park offers public a taste of secondary growth bush in NZ with two large ish kauri trees to view & touch. Be sure to use the shoe cleaning equipment to ensure you do your bit to help prevent kauri die back disease. There's a (graffitied) map that gives directions and times for the various walking tracks. We enjoyed a lovely 15 minute loop that included a short board walk section around the kauri trees. Enter the bush at the carpark and turn right at the fork to have this experience. The surface of the path is rough and includes rocks, making this wee excursion unsuitable for wheelchair or stroller. There are toilets at the start of the walk. The small bitumen sealed carpark has parking for around max of 14 vehicles. There is not enough room for large campervans or RV's or anything...

A beautiful native forest walk with amazing huge old kauri trees. It's really nice to see kauris so close to whangarei! The whole walk is shaded by trees so it's perfect on hot sunny days. Plenty of beautiful nature to see here, and the tracks are well maintained. There are lots of bridges to cross over with rivers running underneath. There is a very high canopy bridge to walk over too which is really amazing and fun. A very easy walk for the whole family however if you want to see the waterfall, be prepared to walk up around 100 steps (unless you park at the other end close to the waterfall) Plenty of space at the carpark with security cameras and a public toilet. Very safe. Great spots for a picnic near the waterfall aswell. The tracks goes all the way to tiki falls if your feeling...

A lovely shady bush walk on a hot sunny day. Boards with a map explain the area. There is a shoe washing facility at the beginning of the trail to disinfect shoes and prevent the the spread of kauri tree dieback disease. A bridge takes you over a stream. The main bush hiking track is 3 hours one way, so we chose a short walk into the bush instead. The path is clearly visible. Different species of trees surround the path, and we noticed a tree with a branch that started growing one way and then changed its mind and curved back on itself; an amazing feature of nature.
