Rockburn Winery Cellar Door — Attraction in South Island

Probably the worst ambiance for wine tasting I have ever encountered (and I’ve done a lot). Reminded me of sitting in a compound in Afghanistan. A small area with 3 or 4 tables surrounded by concrete shuttering held in place with steel supports. No natural shade and no view of surroundings. The tables were too high for the stools making the whole experience rather awkward. Rockburn Cellar Door was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Marcia, who guided us through the tasting, did an exceptional job. Her knowledge and passion for Rockburn’s wines really elevated the experience, making each wine come alive with her descriptions.

The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were absolute highlights – both were beautifully balanced, with distinct flavors that stood out. I couldn’t resist taking two bottles of their top range home to savor later. If you’re in the area and appreciate good wine, a stop at Rockburn is well worth it....

Rockburn Wines Cellar Door is located right next to the Gibbston Tavern in the Rockburn Stables. It is a very rustic cellar door with a lovely atmosphere. We met Alex here who gave us all the information on the wines we were tasting. She was very passionate and knowledgeable about their wines. One of my favourites, also one of their most popular wines, is the Stolen Kiss Rose. I would certainly recommend visiting this cellar door in Central Otago.
