For those visiting the Otego Peninsula on a budget, there are still a number of free options to go in search of Wildlife. Taiaroa Head is at the very tip of the Otego Peninsula, and offers a number of walkways and viewing platforms from which to watch NZ Fur Seals lounging in the sun; little blue penguins come ashore at night (fee associated); and gaze at soaring seabirds. There are plenty of gulls (but that's not what you come here to see, is it?!), so make sure to watch out that you don't get pooped on! We saw a few impressive-looking, all-white Royal Spoonbills. We also had a great view of a massive Royal Albatross approaching the coastline. Clearly bigger than any other bird around, it was fun to just watch this majestic bird soar...
