This little stretch of coastline really does have yellow-eyed penguins crossing the beach each evening after 3pm. My uncle used to care for them - what a loving chore Uncle Jim... thank you for all you've done! However you won't see any in my pics because ever the fresh pic hunter, I figured they'd have to go back out to sea in the morning and I'd get that pic!? Unfortunately for me, their alarm went off earlier than mine so...stick to the after 3pm and please STAY OFF THE BEACH... they'll see you, you'll scare them, and they won't come...

Read moreNice place not too far off from the Oamaru town. Just a short walk from the car park to the spot where you can (attempt to) see the penguins. Bring binoculars for the best view. When I arrived there were heaps of backpackers just sitting all over the viewing deck windows when they were supposed to be discreet. Left after a while as I was just looking into the back of their heads and hearing them chatter away. Hopefully my next visit...
