The Janie Seddon shipwreck is located on the Motueka foreshore, but despite its weathered ruins the ship has a rich and diverse history The Janie Seddon was build in 1901 at Glasgow for Scotland a submarine mining vessel and was the last surviving military ship to have served in both world wars. When her military days came to an end, Janie was purchased by the local Talley’s fishing group as the first in their fleet. As a coal-powered ship, she proved unsuitable as a fishing vessel and her size prevented her from operating in the coastal waters of Tasman Bay. In 1950, the Janie Seddon was laid up on the Motueka Wharf, and after sinking at her moorings a few years later she was stripped of anything of use and left to the elements. this day, Janie’s rusting hull rests on the coast of Motueka and a short stroll along the foreshore will take you to her unofficial...

Exploring the Janie Seddon Shipwreck is a fascinating journey into maritime history, accessible during low tide. The wreck, a testament to the passage of time, emerges like a ghostly silhouette from the mudflats. Accessible by a precarious path of stones, it's an adventure that demands both caution and curiosity. While the path may be tricky, the reward is immense—a firsthand encounter with a piece of maritime history. For those with an adventurous spirit and a love for exploration, the Janie Seddon Shipwreck offers a unique and memorable experience. Just be sure to time your visit with the tides and tread carefully through the hidden path that connects the present to the...

Old wharf with boat from past times when ships were essential for transport of goods and people. Now world famous in Motueka. Ship wreck is considered dangerous but good for photos. Tidal estuary so water level varies around boat. As you can see from photo it has rusted away. Do not go out to wreck. Very dangerous. Car parks close and picnic table. Golf club close but shops km away. Some large rocks near parking area and a new seat. Large sign to say Danger about Janie Seddon wreck. New moa sculpture in near by...

Beware using drones here, while Its not in a NFZ, and all standard care and common sence should be taken, a "very local chap" who looks and acts just like the Villan from Avatar, has apointed himself as "King of the Wreck", He used to be a Pilot, he was in the Army, and Has "friends" in the Police Force....guys a boomer thug with no grip on the real world, his arguments fall flat and is very ill informed, but Boy this child hate drones.
