Better than Auckland for not feeling like the animals are stir crazy penned into small spaces. But it's a surprising amount of ground to cover on foot, you feel it by the end. I do wish the organisation of routes to see animals had been organised a bit better into logical flowing loops. Great playground. Very lucky to have it.

Rhino's impressive, meercats, big cats and red panda spying is always good. The little monkeys in the bird area are right up in your face and so expressive! Cleaning each other, and jumping branch to branch in delight. Major highlight.

Lowlight would be how depressed, or stir crazy wanting to fight the chimps are. There's a very old one in there, hair disappearing that just seems blimmin sad everytime. Their home/whare is very stinky so don't stay long. From all appearances this enclosure seems fine, but there must be some kind of stimulation, or natural rest area they are not getting. Just every time I've gone they look palpably miserable. Do the make tree nests like gorilla's (?), maybe a semi enclosed tree house, somewhere home ish but not spliced with glass and staring faces. They're too much like people and need sanity, quiet space to recharge.

Their onsight food is beyond expensive. $20 for one small burger without sides or a drink, but apparently tasty. Better to bring own or stop at a nice bakery or something on way. The cafe could be nice, but it's weired you have to leave the zoo to use it so have...
