Atkinson Park — Attraction in Waitākere Ranges

21/01/2024 - Damn!!! Another Auckland Park/Track/Walk that's CLOSED! indefinitely for FLOOD / CYCLONE repairs. No way of knowing until you arrive there as the Auckland Council website has no information. DON'T BOTHER VISITING and save yourself the inconvenience and wasted petrol. As with most closures, no timeline for when they will open again. Lots of Parks/Tracks and Walks in the Waitakere Ranges that 12 months on are still closed for repairs due to the 2023 Cyclone/Floods. Hidden away down the bottom of Titirangi is this lovely children's park with stunning veiw of manukau harbour. It is just sad this is a non swimming beach due to pollution. You can walk, play ball and explore the coast at low tide. There is a walkway I'm wiping to explore as it has a lot of stairs. Plenty of parking in the carpark or keep going so you can park up directly looking out to the harbour. Has toilets which normally have no soap. A short 40 minutes walk that you can combine with some picnic at the Titirangi beach. Easy for kids as well, although be aware there is a bit of uphill climb which should be no problem for an average person. There are some steps as well. Good trail to observe some native flora and fauna. The running stream is a pleasant background noise to the trail. Wear good shoes or boots especially in rain...
