Definitely worth the walk up. Fantastic view over Bergen and surrounding area. The walk up is challenging 1333 steps and a steep walk before that but it is not so difficult. We were told that it would take 1-2hours - it took us around 55minutes. I would recommend good hiking shoes, water and maybe a snack. It is tiring but really not as bad as people make it out to be - as long as you are not completely out of shape - even so, you could make it if you walk slowly.

There are no really challenging parts. The first trail before getting to the stairs is quite steep at certain points - take your time as then come the 1333 stairs. But once you make it up you can then take the cable car down (it is expensive though).

To get to the start, just take the number 2 tram from the centre to the hospital area (station is called Haukeland sjukehus) and walk up from there to where the cable car is, and then just past it on the right is the start of the trails. Just follow the shortest one, 2.5km (stay on the biggest path - and you will get to the stairs after a little while).

Final thing - once you reach the top where the cable car is, you can continue up a bit more to the peak (from which I took the first picture) - but optional. There are two routes for that, I went the much shorter but steeper which is on the facade. You can also go around a longer route on the side...

We took the cable car up to Ulriken and then hiked Vidden to Floyen and took the cable car back down. The views at the top are great, but they really can't compare to the views along Vidden while hiking. We saw a lot of sheep along the trail too! The trail wasn't very well marked at the very beginning near Ulriken and we went the wrong way for a bit. Once we got past the first part and on the right path, the trail was very well marked the rest of the way. The hike was about 8 miles, but we ended up hiking closer to 10 with our getting lost at the beginning. The trail wasn't that difficult. It was mostly flat with just a little up and down, but it was so wet. By halfway through the hike we gave up on trying to keep our feet dry and just gave in to the fact that they were going to be soggy for the rest of the hike. The views were spectacular the entire time and I would highly recommend the hike! Make sure to give yourself enough time. It took us about 7 hours with getting lost for about an hour. We got to Floyen right as the sun was setting which was...

I took the route floyenRundemanen on a sunny day, stunning views but felt a bit unchallenged. It was a fairly easy hike with the first 30 mins being more demanding on cardio fitness. I then decided to go from Rundemanen to Ulriken, a considerably more challenging hike. It was WAY more challenging than i thought, path was not distinct and you need to cruise through wet, muddy and rocky terrain. Recommend to only moderate+ experienced hikers, as you need to be fairly confident in your footing and have good overall strength to complete this course. Stick with the signpost (which at times can be confusing) so you remain on the course! The steep and sporadic ascend-descend also puts lots of pressure on the feet and ankle. Bring proper gortex shoes and supply.

If you do all that, you WILL be rewarded with views that will stay with you for a long time. If you can, time it so you arrive Ulriken at sunset. I spent 4 hours from Rundemanen to Ulriken, and I am a mid-level...
