Thai is a one-of-it’s-kind human ingenuity wonder that has to be experienced by anyone coming to the Oslo/Drammen region 🎉 It is the spiraling drive inside the mountain that forms an elevator which is so unique. You will be greeted by a family of Spiral Mountain Trolls inside the tunnel as Norwegian folk tales have numerous stories about such creatures. Then you reach the top and breathtaking views of the Drammen city and valley all year round🎉 From the (paid) parking lot you have a restaurant, restrooms and views. Additionally there is an outdoor museum a short walk further up the mountain. This is a fantastic starting point for walks on lit trails in nature. All this is accessible for both wheelchairs and prams. If you are adventurous and want to walk up to the Spiral View then you can use the “Zig-Zag” trail with several starting points at the base of the mountain. The bonus walking up or down the mountain are...

A Thrilling Drive to Panoramic Views: The Drammen Spiral.

The Drammen Spiral is more than just a tunnel; it's an engineering marvel offering a unique driving experience. Winding up the mountainside in six loops, this corkscrew tunnel delivers you to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking Drammen.

The drive itself is a highlight. Imagine steadily climbing within the mountain, sunlight filtering through at intervals. While not particularly challenging, the switchbacks offer a touch of excitement.

Once you emerge, the reward is a stunning panorama. Gaze upon Drammen city nestled below, the Drammen River snaking through the valley, and the vast expanse of surrounding countryside.

Whether you enjoy a leisurely drive or marvel at engineering feats, the Drammen Spiral is worth a visit. Don't forget to snap photos and soak in the unforgettable views...

So I am biased… I live in this city and Spiralen is the ONLY tourist attraction we got! It’s a tunnel that in the shape of a spiral takes you from downtown to the top of the hill in six (or seven??) revolutions. Once up there you are in the wilderness, dress accordingly! An open air museum well worth the visit, a set of forest tracks and a reasonable restaurant. And most importantly; when you meet people trekking in the forest you must say hi (this is a norm here in Norway) and it’s like 90% sure you will engage in a conversation, in the city there’s a 100% guarrantee nobody will ever speak with you (this is on us, it’s not you), so go here if you’re bored of speaking with your family- and want some...
